Hand


Many of our surgeons are experienced in surgery of the hand and can provide services for most conditions.  Three of our surgeons specialize in treating the hand.  They are:

John M. Chandler, M.D. (Bristol Medical Center)

Dr. John Chandler received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences at Memphis. His post graduate medical training consisted of an internship at the City of Memphis Hospitals in Memphis. He completed a general surgery residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis with a fellowship in surgery of the hand with Dr. L.W. Milford. His is a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Chandler has extensive experience in hand and upper extremity surgery, joint replacements, and general orthopaedics.

Michael Fleenor, M.D. (Bristol - Midway)

Dr. Michael Fleenor and his wife, Rita, reside in Bristol Virginia, and they have four children, Devon, Skyler, Michael and Kayla. Dr. Fleenor is currently spearheading the opening of the Bristol Fire Museum. He has been with our Midway office since 1989. He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia and is board certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Fleenor practices general orthopaedics, but specializes in hand surgery. He completed his hand fellowship at the prestigious Christine Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky.

John L. Holbrook, M.D. (Johnson City)

Dr. John L. Holbrook received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, TN. He received his training in orthopaedic surgery also at Vanderbilt University. This was followed by a fellowship in hand and shoulder surgery at Baylor University in Houston, TX. Dr. Holbrook is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and also holds the certificate of added qualifications for surgery of the hand. He is also on the clinical staff at the Quillen College of Medicine. He has published multiple papers in the orthopaedic and hand surgery literature. He is also a member of multiple medical societies.

He and his wife, Patty, have three children, Amy, Austin and Hayden. They are members of Munsey Methodist Church.
